So, the other day, Firefox started having issues with several different web pages. I could use them for a couple of minutes at a time before Firefox would cease to respond. I did a complete uninstall of the program without refreshing it back to restoring it to its original settings. Things were working a little bit better, but I was still having the same issue, just a little less often. Today when I was using it, it was worse than before. I would click a link and Firefox would cease to respond. I would close it and then try again, with the exact same results. So, trying to deal with the issue, I went in search of help from Mozilla support. It recommended that I refresh Firefox and return it to its original settings. I did that and now I can't access any of my old stuff. I also can't even access Mozilla while I am using the Firefox browser, I am currently using Google Chrome. I tried the steps to fix my firewall so that Firefox was an allowed program. I still cannot get to most sites without being told that they are untrusted. I cannot even access the add-ons tab in my browser without being told that it is untrusted. I used to LOVE Firefox, as it was the only browser that had the toolbar that I needed for one of the sites I frequent. This, however, is getting really annoying. I can't use it without it freaking out and telling me that things are untrusted, I cannot redownload my toolbar, and I still cannot open the web page that I need without it telling me that it isn't responding.

I seriously need some help before I say to hell with Firefox and just use Google Chrome.

Image one and two are before my 4th attempt at the Firewall fix. Image three is to doesn't really hold much value, other than to show that even after refreshing everything, I still can't get past the stupid, not responding, issue. Images four through eight are me going through the steps of yet another attempt at the Firewall fix. Images nine and ten are another round of being told that I'm not allowed to go to those sites because they are untrusted.

If you need more information, give me step by step instructions on how to get it, and I will post it.

Update

After doing an actual reset on my PC, Firefox will now let me go to places such as google, and even this particular page without shouting at me that it is an untrusted site. One problem solved! Huzzah!

I am still having the issue of it deciding that it doesn't want to respond. With some pages it is a lot faster to do that than others. I have noticed that I can go almost an hour without it going unresponsive with most sites. With Gaiaonline, it will cease to respond almost every time I go to a new page. It is really frustrating, as I am a Gaia nerd. I spend most of my free time on that site, and having it freeze just as I am getting onto the site, is really, really grating on my nerves.

Anyone able to assist with this issue? As I am starting, from scratch, there is next to nothing in my bookmarks. I REFUSE to refresh FireFox, because I will not go through that massive cluster headache ALL over again. I just got all of my stuff reset up from not only refreshing FireFox, but my PC as well, thank you very much.

Again, if you need more information to help me with this issue, give me step by step instructions and I will gladly get the information for you.

After doing an actual reset on my PC . . . . .

What do you mean by a reset? There are several ways.

Some of your issues could be mal-ware. Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

This Connection is Untrusted is sometimes caused because the computer system clock is wrong. Check the time / date / time zone settings.

The time and date were both correct when I was having the, this connection is untrusted, issue. That one has since been resolved.

As for refreshing my laptop, I called tech support for my laptop because for some reason it was the only thing that refused to connect to the internet in my house. I took it back to factory settings without loosing all of my saved data. I lost all programs that were not installed on my laptop from day one. That fixed the issue with both my internet connection problem and the, this is an untrusted connection.

I'll try the malware scanner to see if that helps with FireFox not responding.

Thanks much!

If you can't inspect the certificate via "I Understand the Risks" then try this:

Open the "Add Security Exception" window by pasting this chrome URL in the Firefox location/address bar and check the certificate:

  • chrome://pippki/content/exceptionDialog.xul

In the location field of this window type or paste the URL of the website.

  • retrieve the certificate via the "Get certificate" button
  • click the "View..." button to inspect the certificate in the Certificate Viewer

You can inspect details like the issuer and the certificate chain in the Details tab of the Certificate Viewer. Check who is the issuer of the certificate. If necessary then you can attach a screenshot that shows the certificate viewer.

There is security software like Avast and Kaspersky and BitDefender that intercept secure connections and send their own certificate.
