Hi:

This happens from FF 29 , 30 ...32. At times (but not always) , when loading a web page or the web page is loading something (some scripts , my guess) , the USB logitech trackball loss connection and the arrow animation just stopped or the arrow stuck at some position on screen. I don't think it is the trackball problem as I don't encounter the problem using other applications. I have to disconnect the trackball from the USB port and replug into the USB to re-activate the trackball.

None of the USB ports is configured for power-saving (always on) and I tried using different USB ports, same problem arose at least once. I have also moved the cord around to see if there is any problem but none found (so it inot torn wire) Has anyone encountered this or it is just me again. Appreciate any insight.

What other devices are connected to USB ports? Does that include your network connection or is that connected via a network card?

If the mouse stops responding then this is possibly a problem with the mouse driver software, so make sure that you have the latest driver for all hardware devices. You can also try the generic mouse driver that Windows uses by default and not the Logitech mouse driver.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test.

What Logitech trackball is it? Have you tried it on another computer to rule it out?

I have a TrackMan T-CL13 that was doing this but it turned out it may have just been the PS/2 to USB adapter as another one works with it. If only Logitech came out with the T-BB13 again as I dislike the T-BB18 and M570 ergonomics and two finger use.

James:

It is the T-BB18.

it is a direct USB connection, no adaptor. I do not have another computer to try it on, but there are many USB ports on my system and tried them all. The problem doesn't happen all the time , only when it is loading some web sites. I need to make a note of which web sites next time it happens.

Cor-el:

The trackball is connected to one of the USB root hubs on the motherboard. It is a simple network card (onboard) , no USB.

I just let Vista installed the driver, not sure if it is the logitech one. It doesn't happen all the time , just occasionally but always when the browser is loading web sites, it doesn't happen when I am using other applications. I will make a note of the web sites next time.

It occurred to me that maybe the bearings and sensor part where the red ball sites just needs a little careful cleaning of any buildup with a qtip.

There can be times when the left, middle and right buttons still work but the cursor does not move until after cleaning.

I just got done cleaning the T-CH11 (one of five I have) and the T-CL13 (for scroll wheell needs) TrackMan's I am currently using and I had the thought.

It is also possible that the CPU load is too high and that the communication with the USB device gets interrupted.

Do you notice an unusual CPU load (plugin like Flash or JavaScript issues) when visiting some websites?

Embarrassing to say, it is the USB cord (I should have tested it using another USB mouse first) . I still don't know why it only happened when I was using FF and why the cord has torn connection for something (trackball) that doesn't move the cord as much as the mouse.
