You need the sessionstore.js file if you want to backup and restore the tabs and windows that are currently open.
Alternatively, you could right-click on any tab, then click "Bookmark All Tabs...", choose a folder name and all those will be saved. Later you can open them from the Bookmark Sidebar or Library, just right-click the name of the folder and click "Open All in Tabs".
To backup your Firefox data you can use MozBackup or Firefox Sync.
These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox
FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) {web link} FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backup of files that you choose.

You can bookmark the tabs of different categories into folders on your Bookmarks Toolbar. You could then open a folder to open anything from one to all tabs. You would then not need to have so many open at once. Sorry, but I can't begin to imagine how you can manage that many tabs at once.
