I want to tell Mozilla it won't update from the server, but it won't let me give feedback -- ever.

Hi kaf3,
I do not know if you are still around, but you do not seem too happy with Firefox.

So I am more interested in:

This happened A few times a week
This started when... Awhile ago.
More Information
Slam mouse on pad. Spit at screen. Curse Mozilla. Curse T-bird for refusing to update. Threaten to use Chrome. Curse Chrome. Give up.

Rather than trying to provide that as feedback if you explain in this thread what your problem is someone may try to help you. (I personally may well not be on the forum much until next week some time - but hopefully someone else will answer if I am not around - this forum does not have a good system for that problem, but we are improving in providing a first answer to most questions)

As I tried to indicate, FF tells me to update and then fails to connect to the server. It simply hangs. It has been doing this for as long as the update to 10.0.02 has been trying to update. T-bird, a different problem, kept trying to update and would tell me it couldn't because "a version of T-bird is running" when in fact it was not. I finally downloaded a completely new T-bird to effect the update. I could do the same type of update for FF -- but it isn't supposed to work that way. As an aside, Sea Monkey updates just fine. Now, why FF won't let me submit a problem, I have no idea. The submit button is simply dead and has been each time I got fed up and tried to use it. None of this info helps you, I'm sure, but thanks for responding.

As you say this should not happen and we should try to sort out your problems. T-bird has separate support forums, have a look at https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird/Support/Community_support_based_on_languages delete the progfilr

Firefox should update easily, but if you are having problems those may be solved by a clean reinstall, involving deletion of the Firefox program files. Take care with this, it is the program files that you delete. The profile is separate and important.

Do NOT
  • take any option to delete personal details, offered by Firefox or Windows, that will destroy your bookmarks, passwords, and other settings.
  • delete the profile again it will destroy information

Do the following please

  1. download the latest version of Firefox, you can get that from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
  2. do not follow these instructions, but look at then so that you understand how the standard install procedure works installing firefox on windows
  3. look carefully at this article you need to do the install that includes deleting the program files, followed by the new install. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Clean_reinstall
  4. ok go ahead and do it, good luck

I am hoping that the clean reinstall will ensure that in future the updates will work. (If that fails to resolve the issue there are other measures that may be tried) If all is going well with Firefox development it will be a few weeks before the next version Firefox 11 is launched as a release update. You may need to wait a while to see if the next update works.

If the feedback is a problem still we will look at that again after you have installed the new Firfefox 10.0.2 that may also have been fixed. If not we will investigate further.

Please post back with how you get on.

edit. And for other ideas
Have you got any security software likely to block install or changes to your system.
