Hi. Have just installed easy screenshot and the icon is on the menu bar, but the controls are all greyed out and unresponsive. How do I get it to work?

Extensions won't work on this support site or the addons site for security reasons. Instead you can use the built-in screenshot tool by right-clicking > Take Screenshot.
