I am disabled and have been using Dragon for writing and reading for more than 20 years. With the new update I cannot install the Dragon extension into Firefox and the longer. This means I will be no longer able to use Firefox as my web browser. This means I will be going to another editor! This is a shame because I've used Firefox even before it was Firefox! (Netscape)

I have exactly the same problem. I've been using Firefox as my browser for many many years. On July 10, 2023 it stopped working. Early in 2020, I lost the use of my arms and I rely on Dragon NaturallySpeaking software to control my programs. The only way now to use Dragon in Firefox is to use a dictation box and save and transfer my commands and dictations. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. So I've been forced to start using Google Chrome because the Dragon web extension continues to work in that browser. It has never worked with Microsoft Edge. So I'm down to the single browser that supports the web extension.

On July 10, 2023 I received the following error message:

Dragon Professional Web Extension has been blocked for your protection.

Why was it blocked?

This add-on violates Mozilla's add-on policies. This add-on violates Mozilla's add-on policies by executing remote code and collecting user data without disclosure, consent or control. The problematic add-on or plugin will be automatically disabled and no longer usable. When Mozilla becomes aware of add-ons, plugins, or other third-party software that seriously compromises Firefox security, stability, or performance and meets , the software may be blocked from general use. For more information, please read . Versions blocked: all versions. Blocked on Jul 10, 2023.

Now if I search for extensions, it doesn't even show up.

If you mean "Dragon Professional Web Extension" then the last Firefox updates had Nothing to do with it being blocked.

This extension violated at least one or more of the polices the authors of the extension agreed to for hosting the Extension at AMO. https://extensionworkshop.com/documentation/publish/add-on-policies/

It could be a simple mistake or perhaps they made some changes that they thought would still be acceptable in information collection. Hopefully the authors behind the Dragon Professional Web Extension can work with Mozilla in reverting the recent changes that got extension blocked so it can be unblocked.

Also Netscape was a suite in early days and then later they had a browser version based on Firefox. Firefox had the names of Phoenix originally then Firebird before changing to Firefox since the 0.8 Release

Well hopefully the extension authors revert or correct the changes that were made that violated the policies they agreed to in hosting it at AMO.

In the meantime you can try this. In the Location (address) bar type about:config and search for extensions.blocklist.enabled and toggle it to false. You may need to restart Firefox after.

The blocklist is a good thing as it has blocked a variety of things over the years as were for example malware, scams, fake plugins, and even ones that stole money (crypto) and such over the years. Mozilla used to list every extension that got added to blocklist at https://blocked.cdn.mozilla.net/ however they have stopped making this list updated for public to easily see since 2020.

Hey, could i ask you to do the one thing that could help, tell the monsters that decided to block an accessibility tool used by thousands that they have no business being in the mozilla foundation, which is supposed to have principles. And the monsters that decided to do so without so much as a notice so we spend the next for months trying to reinstall it - i would probably get arrested if i said what i thought. Imagine still doing nothing to help, after months.

I am sickened by mozilla choosing to block an accessibility tool (with no accessible workaround) that thousands have spent hundreds of hours and thousand of dollars on being able to use. Utterly sickening to put their political grandstanding above peoples ability, and to do so with no transparency is just revolting. It would have been trivial to decide 'this is a vital accessibility tool, we will give a notice instead', but that wouldn't be as effective for grandstanding

I am ashamed i ever supported you.
