Recently I tried to switch from Google Chrome to Firefox, but when I downloaded the browser it wouldn't work, opening for less than a second and then crashing, without appearing in task manager. I ended up finding a fairly lengthy workaround that got it to work for a few hours, but even that has stopped working. I have checked the support page and none of the potential causes are true for me.

What happens when you start Firefox in Safe Mode? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/diagnose-firefox-issues-using-troubleshoot-mode#w_how-to-start-firefox-in-4troubleshoot-modesf5safe-modesf

What security software are you running? What version of Firefox?

Safemode does nothing, the window confirming that I want to run it in safe mode does the same thing as the browser itself, very briefly opening and then closing

I use McAfee Livesafe, I have made sure the firewall doesn't interfere with Firefox, even briefly turning the firewall off Firefox version 98.0.2

I would disable McAfee. Also, try windows in Safe Mode with networking.

Disabling McAfee did nothing but running in safe mode worked. I didn't get internet access despite running safe mode with networking.

Okay. What happens under another Windows account on this pc? You will need to determine what process is interfering with Firefox. Also, open the event viewer before opening Firefox to see if anything pops up.

Here are few tools I like to use to understand what's running. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/autoruns https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/process-explorer

When I tried to open Firefox on another account it worked just fine, I didn't spend much time seeing what happens but for the minute or two I spent on the other account there were no issues. When I try to open firefox there are no events in event viewer, nor can I see any events relating to Firefox

You can check the Windows Event Viewer logs to see if there is more detail available.

You can check for issues caused by a corrupted or incomplete Visual C++ installation that is missing runtime components (Redistributable Packages) required by Firefox, especially VCRUNTIME140_1.dll.

See "Visual Studio 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2022":

You may also have to install the Visual Studio 2013 Redistributable Package. You need to reboot the computer.
