Thunderbird Update to 78.2.1 causes slow response and other oddities
I followed the prompt from Kaspersky to update Thunderbird - so much wish I hadn't. I've lost clear visibility of the tabs at the top of the screen (they are invisible until I put the mouse over them and then there is no text in the tab, just an x) , the program is now very slow to load up folders (I run three separate email addresses through Thunderbird) and seems much slower to open/delete/move individual mails. Hate it ..... currently saving all my mails in preparation for de-installation and re-install of 78.1.0 which I know worked well. If it ain't broke ........

Restarting with the addons disabled didn't seem to do much so I tried your second option. Thunderbird was still horribly slow even in Safe mode but, on the way into Safe mode I noticed where Restore was now hiding (I wondered where it had gone!). So I found a restore point from a couple of weeks ago and that has undone the update and I'm now back to 68.12 and a familiar Thunderbird.
Thank you very much for the advice - it gave me to confidence to try some different options. Cheers Alison

I would advise that you only let Thunderbird tell you about updates and install updates. I've had various complaints when another Updater Software has done it.
I'm running 78.2.1 with no issues.
Try this: Menu app icon > Help > Restart with addons disabled A small window opens select checkbox : Reset toolbars and controls click on 'Make changes and restart'
Did this fix tabs, menus etc
It would also be worth checking this: Restart Computer in 'Safe Mode with Networking' Then start Thunderbird
The slow mode you were experiencing could be Kaspersky scanning everything you open or download. Restarting computer in 'Safe mode with networking' would tell you if another program was interfering.

In the future please try Windows started in safe mode.
Do you have calendars in Thunderbird?
