Google meet on Firefox: mic slow to start transmitting

Running Ubuntu 18. I switched from Chrome to Firefox as my primary browser a while back. When I join a google meet, the webcam transmits to the other attendees immediately but it takes a while for the mic to start transmitting. What's odd is the "vu meter" in my "self view" shows that the mic is getting a signal... it takes 5-10 seconds before it starts transmitting... after that things work great.

I've swapped it with a different webcam model and saw no change in behavior. This is still happening on the latest version of firefox (77.0.1)

hello cfinemam,

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is is causing the problem.

switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-extensions-themes-to-fix-problems It is possible that your firewall or other security software blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox application. Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process. See:

Thank you Asked Question in Mozilla Support.

I'll give safe mode a try in case it's one of the extensions. I will double check but I don't think i've got this problem on my macbook so that would seem to discount the firewall.

Also, keep in mind it just takes a few seconds before it starts to transmit my mic. If it were a firewall issue I would expect it to not let the audio through at all or that the video would be impacted in a similar fashion.
