I want sound advice on migration from 32-Bit to 64-Bit (Thunderbird)

I have recently upgraded my Dell Windows 10 Pro PC processor to 64-bit, and then replaced the processor with a faster chipset, then added a Graphics Card - all of which have resulted in a good increase in performance. I now notice that my version of Thunderbird (on auto update) is still a 32-Bit version. I see I should be able to locate the 64-Bit version but wonder about pros and cons of this upgrade. Any ideas please? Your comments will be much appreciated.

The 64-bit version is not currently supported and may have bugs or non-working add-ons not present in the 32-bit release. Reports seem to indicate there's no significant performance boost, but you can install it (in Program Files, whereas 32-bit is in Program Files (x86)) and see for yourself. It might be a good idea to create a separate profile with Profile Manager: close TB, Winkey+R, type C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe -p

Thank you SF Howes - exactly the information I was looking for. Well done. Geoff.

There are rare reports that it is faster but they are unsnsubtantiated, and there is no basis in code to expect 64bit to be noticably faster.

We are preparing for 64bit to be rolled out in the v68 time period. You are welcome to try what is available but there's really nothing to gain. So you could just wait, and you will get it automatically. No extra profile needed.
