My Thunderbird just updated to 60.3.0 (32 bit). After the update none of my filters work automatically or manually. I filter messages based on sender and/or subject lines into folders but everything is simply going to inbox and/or sent box now. When I try top run filters manually or send, Thunderbird pops up a message that simply says "Applying filter (name of filter) failed. Would you like to continue applying filters?"

I've been using these filters for several years without problems til this update. Please advise ASAP

Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode).

On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.

If you do determine it to be an add-on, we would appreciate you posting the name of one that caused the issue.

Tried that, still had problem. Going through now and removing editing filters - apparently the update doesn't want to play sounds.

Once I removed sounds, filters seem to be working.

Thanks for your reposnse

Still wondering why sounds won't work.

There is an issue with non default sound files. I do not really understand it, but it has a lot to do with how many bits things are and the file size. But that is only my limited understanding.

Last I saw in the bug the Mozilla core people had joined in as it affects Firefox as well. I guess your filter are a side issue. And a small one as most of the sound issued manifest as a crash. Not good at all.

Normally I would post a link to the bug so you could follow along, but this one has been declared a security bug so access is restricted.

perhaps a downgrade might be in order until the bug is fixed, which on current appearances may not be more than a few weeks.

I just tried to add a sound to a filter, no options to do so.

Am I to assume you are using filtaqilla which is only certified to version 45. The Author Kent James has retired as I understand it and development has been taken over by Axel Grude.

He has a pre release version of the add-on here https://www.mozdev.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=26599

If the pre release version still shows the issue I suggest you drop a note to Axel. If it comes to that mention this bug, it may well be relevant to him and I think he has the relevant access to see it. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1482659
