Seriously, stop putting an icon on my desktop when I install Firefox on Windows. I know, most people will read this and think, "Get real, just delete the icon and move on with your life." But, no, not kidding, putting an icon on my desktop that I didn't ask for is disrespectful to me as a user at best, and nauseatingly Microsoft-esque bad behavior at worst. I really will stop using Firefox if the installer keeps doing this.

Hi briand6, if you use the "full" or "offline" installer rather than the one that downloads quickly, there is a checkbox you can deselect to avoid the icon. This article will get you there:

Custom installation of Firefox on Windows

Hi jscher2000. I greatly appreciate you taking the time to respond to me, but no, I respectfully disagree that this is a good solution. I go to mozilla.com, click on the big green button, run the installer, and end up with an icon on my desktop. It's too late at that point to go back and get the installer that wouldn't have put the icon there. The first time this happened I thought I must have missed the checkbox that said "add icon to desktop" (but, had there been one, I still would have been surprised that it was enabled by default), but the second time annoyed me enough to post here. This is bad behavior 90's style. I'm stunned that the decision was made to do this with the default installer.

Do you want to file a bug? Here in support we can't change anything about the way the installers work.

Indeed. That's what I was looking for when I ended up here. Thanks.

Windows users going www.mozilla.org are served a small online stub installer. The full setup for Windows is at www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/

Mozilla has had a stub installer since Firefox 18.0 and as of Fx 55.0 they have a newer stub which will install Win64 on 64-bit Windows 7,8,10 with at least 2GB of RAM by default. Win64 for Release has existed since Firefox 42.0.

I wish Mozilla would just use the full setup for Windows instead.
