Firefox updated today, and somehow it was corrupted and replaced with a radioactive pile of horse dung in the shape of Windows 3.1 user interface.

I need to roll back to Firefox instead of this joke. And obviously I need to never allow Firefox to update ever again without being notified beforehand that the UI was redrawn. What's the next UI inspiration going to be, Microsoft Bob?

Get this crap out of here. I want to go back to the UI I had.

Support Volunteers can't make changes to Firefox and are not the Developers or Staff.

This the best way to uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files(x86) Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. Backup your Profile if need to https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data

Unfortunately 56.0.2 is no longer safe to use for every day use, but 52.5.0 ESR is! It will continue to get security updates until May 2018, and you can download and install it from this page: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all/

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

I realize full well you're not Devs. Consider it a public statement for whatever jackhole dev reads any of this.

I mean, what idiot decided to redo the UI in this asinine way?

I am still on 56.0.2

What do you mean by "no longer safe"?

No longer safe for UI devs' paychecks? UI devs who love Soviet brutalist architecture?

Lol, install this old version for 6 months until it too gets shat all over by Quantum UI? Don't make me laugh. Either they put back the old UI or no Mozilla products on my PC anymore.

Might as well leave since the old UI isn't coming back. Also, 56.0.2 is no longer safe due to severe vulnerabilities. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/security/advisories/

Since you're not Devs, you can't know if the old UI won't be restored as an option. And the only way to get it back is for users who don't like the new UI to push back.

Users or customers saying no to bad and unwanted changes works. Mozilla reads these forums I'd wager. Qwikster, New Coke, Firefox Quantum UI. All the same.

I don't need to be a dev to know Mozilla's track record. I've been contributing long enough to the Mozilla project. They've NEVER brought back an old UI in a new version regardless of user consensus. Remember the 4.0 look with the orange button? Gone in Fx29 with no native options to bring it back. What about Australis curvy tabs? Gone as of 57.

The Github link I posted in my previous reply gives you to option to bring back the curvy tabs look.

Why? Have you asked yourself hy they did this, and why you are willing to accept it? It's not a small change like the old button. It's a gigantic leap backwards in usability and readability.

Ony partially. And I should not have to code css to have a readable UI. The bars behind it are still the new UI, the fonts and spacing are new UI, and that method removes the Close Tab X.

No, it's not acceptable. I'm not the only one who hates the new UI. Even a return to the font size and space and colors would be enough, but you have to code CSS to customize it all or to modify enough of it to make it readable.

Nope.

Understatement of the year right there. Switch to ESR then! Geez, you have options, use them! If you don't like the look of Photon, either switch to another browser, use ESR until June 2018, or get on board.

And then what? What happens in June 201i, even ESR goes away and the only option is Photon? Lol, no thanks.

You know what, man, do what you want. You've been complaining ALL day in the forums and I don't want to read another word of it.

Update : It isn't completely possible to use the Australis design with Firefox 57, but depending on what you want, you might be able to customize the UI to look more like the old one:

This project: https://github.com/wilfredwee/photon-australis lets you have the old tab bar appearance back in Firefox 57.
You can remove the space around the address bar by right-clicking on the spaces, and choosing "remove from toolbar".

Here's a more comprehensive project which affects not only tabs but brings back the old "grid-style" options menu.

https://github.com/axydavid/FirefoxUI/blob/master/README.md

Note the Black Theme is just a example and it can be found under Customize.

How about looking at these 2 URL's first : https://www.howtogeek.com/333110/how-to-customize-firefox-quantum-and-remove-the-white-space-around-the-title-bar/ and The name is not descriptive enough : https://www.howtogeek.com/332449/whats-new-in-firefox-quantum/

More information will come out slowly. New extensions are being made and some older ones being updated that can track here : http://bit.ly/2j0Anlj and look for a like program.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Firefox updated on one of the other computers in the house (even though it was set to NOT install without permission, that was fun! Thanks Firefox!)

So I tried some of these things. I got some things fixed, almost back to normal, but... Still awful. No theme choice or setting gets it back to where it was. Everything's too cramped, and hovering over a tab makes it change size distractingly. And "Touch" is too wide. Fonts are too small, can't be changed anywhere, and it just ... doesn't work.

Folders are grey, Tabs are the top?

Nope. I have vision trouble and this is just unusable.

Folders are grey

/* Colored folders for bookmark sidebar, toolbar, menu button */ /* Standard folder */ #bookmarks-view treechildren::-moz-tree-image(container), #PlacesToolbarItems toolbarbutton[container="true"] .toolbarbutton-icon, #PlacesToolbarItems menu[container="true"] .menu-iconic-left, #BMB_bookmarksPopup menu[container="true"] .menu-iconic-icon { fill: #e8bb00 !important; /* slightly muted gold */ } /* Live Bookmark (RSS Feed) */ #bookmarks-view treechildren::-moz-tree-image(container, livemark), #PlacesToolbarItems toolbarbutton[container="true"][livemark="true"] .toolbarbutton-icon, #PlacesToolbarItems menu[container="true"][livemark="true"] .menu-iconic-left, #BMB_bookmarksPopup menu[container="true"][livemark="true"] .menu-iconic-icon { fill: orange !important; } /* Smart bookmark folder */ #bookmarks-view treechildren::-moz-tree-image(container, query), #PlacesToolbarItems toolbarbutton[container="true"][query="true"] .toolbarbutton-icon, #PlacesToolbarItems menu[container="true"][query="true"] .menu-iconic-left, #BMB_bookmarksPopup menu[container="true"][query="true"] .menu-iconic-icon { fill: #69c !important; /* similar to blue smart folder color */ } /* These "containers" are SVG in the sidebar, not yet on the menu */ #bookmarks-view treechildren::-moz-tree-image(container, OrganizerQuery_BookmarksMenu) { fill: olive !important; } #bookmarks-view treechildren::-moz-tree-image(container, OrganizerQuery_BookmarksToolbar) { fill: olive !important; } #bookmarks-view treechildren::-moz-tree-image(container, OrganizerQuery_UnfiledBookmarks) { fill: olive !important; }

Tabs are the top?

/* Tab bar below Navigation & Bookmarks Toolbars For best results, show Title Bar or Menu Bar */ #nav-bar { /* main toolbar */ -moz-box-ordinal-group: 1 !important; border-top-width: 0 !important; } #PersonalToolbar { /* bookmarks toolbar */ -moz-box-ordinal-group: 2 !important; } #TabsToolbar { /* tab bar */ -moz-box-ordinal-group: 3 !important; }

And "Touch" is too wide. Fonts are too small, can't be changed anywhere, and it just ... doesn't work.

Change your density to Compact in 3 bar menu --> Customize --> Density --> Compact

Change font size to your liking at 3-bar menu --> Options --> General --> Fonts & Colors. You might want to try changing the scaling percentage in Windows itself. Start --> Settings --> System --> Display --> Change the size of text, apps, and other items. Default should be 100% or 125% depending on your screen resolution but you can go up to 175% which makes things WAY big and probably perfect for your vision trouble.

more options

Compact is too dense to easily read. Touch is too much blank space. And I don't want to change either my Windows scaling OR the default fonts within webpages, only on the UI itself.

I already found a yellow-folders CSS. And the tabs fixer. Glad Mozilla made fixing their UI stumbles so easy.

And the axydavid css doesn't work.

Once Mozilla puts the old UI back, I'll use Firefox again.

more options

axydavid CSS DOES work, I'm running it now and so are a bunch of other people on Reddit. Double check your userChrome.css. Even a missing */ will throw everything off. You keep mentioning for Mozilla to put back the old UI but it ain't gonna happen so you can stop repeating that. I understand you want the old UI and if you are really set for it, you can go back if you want with some quick Googling. I don't need to hold your hand and show you how to revert.

more options

I backed up my existing userChrome.css and replaced it with the one from axydavid. I restarted Firefox. It reverted to the original scheme.

You may be willing to just accept Mozilla's new UI, but I prefer to stand up to 'em.
