Installed Win10 a few months ago and occasionally Firefox would crash since that. Sometimes by updating FF it would start working correctly again, sometimes it would work without updating. Today I restarted computer, and ever since FF will not stay running. First time after reboot it allowed me to get into Safe Mode, now I can't even do that. Crashes immediately giving option of safe mode or refresh but within 5 seconds that goes away and crash reporter comes up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I figure I'll probably need to uninstall/reinstall FF. I'll await your response first though.

I just noticed that this website 'guesses' that I"m using FF v45.9, I"m pretty sure it's a v55.x though. I am using Palemoon currently for this submission.

Thanks in advance, Jon

Hi, hold down Shift when you start Firefox to start in Safe Mode. More - Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode

To check your version of Firefox - if you can open it. Open the 3-bar menu > Help (question mark at bottom right) > Troubleshooting Information. Or, Help > About Firefox, to check for available updates. If you can't open FF, look at Programs in your PC's Control Panel (right click the Start button). If it isn't up to date (v55.0.3), you can update from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

If you are getting a crash report, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.

Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

Ok I got it to open by holding the 'shift' key. I am running v55.0.3 (64bit), I believe I updated to that yesterday when I started having all the crashing issues, but I had a pretty recent version prior to that though.

I only have 3 crashes in the report list. I generally don't send them when programs crash. But here are the 3 that I currently have in my list. Report ID Date Submitted bp-f756ade9-d3cc-4d38-8c55-a1da41170911 9/11/2017 3:13 PM bp-e2dbffff-0397-4eb9-8e33-66c5d1170911 9/11/2017 3:13 PM bp-67f3bdd8-28aa-4e0c-a879-cdc0f1170911 9/11/2017 3:12 PM

I hope this helps figure out my crashes. Thanks in advance. Jon

EDIT.... So I tried opening FF after posting this and it's working normally again, without being in safe mode. If one of you guys can figure out what's causing my random crashes though that would be great. If it's an older extension I have installed I can most likely get rid of it. Speaking of extensions, looking at the reports I sent in they don't show anything listed in the 'extension' tab. Is this because it was in safe mode when it crashed and therefor didn't see any of the extensions I have?

The crash report seems to show an older cmdshim32.dll 10.0.1.6209 version that may have been updated to a newer version that fixed the issue.

Thanks folks for the help! I think I noticed the main crashing issue after I rebooted my computer the other day since my Kaspersky was saying it needed to reboot to finish an update. Not sure if that triggered the issue or not. I just updated my Comodo Firewall so hopefully that will take care of the cmdshim32 issue. So currently both of those security programs are up to date.

At this moment FF seems to be working ok. I'll keep an eye on it and report back if I get any more crashes.
