How can I merge, or remove, duplicate contacts in my address book?

This addon is not compatible with Thunderbird version 52.5.2. Is there something else?

It is installed and working here in TB 52.5.2.
Did you get so far as to actually try it, or just bail out on being warned about compatibility?
It loads and I can click on Tools --> Find and manage duplicates and check the box to remove without asking and then Start and nothing happens. In the upper left hand corner of the addon it says "Searching for duplicates" but nothing ever happens. Even if I Quit the addon and restart Thunderbird, it still says "Searching for duplicates" when I start it again.
Also since there does not appear to be any more documentation than what is on the opening screen, I tried clicking on Address Book 1 and Address Book 2 even though I only have one address book that has duplicates.
Zenos, any more ideas?
