What's your computer system and Firefox version?

Hi,

The people who answer questions here, for the most part, are other Firefox users volunteering their time (like me), not Mozilla employees or Firefox developers.

If you want to leave feedback for Firefox developers, you can go to the Firefox Help menu and select Submit Feedback... or use this link. Your feedback gets collected at http://input.mozilla.org/, where a team of people read it and gather data about the most common issues.

How old is the battery, and how old is the laptop?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Is the problem still there?

Hey Fred,

Here are my computer specs:

Apple MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2016) 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM with TouchBar FireFox 50.1.0 version

I have tried it with safe mode and it still utilizes high memory and graphics usage and most likely CPU as well. This goes on a page that is not even rendering anything. I compared it to Safari and Chrome and I'm really surprised by how much battery it gets drained.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Options/Preferences -> Advanced -> General -> Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.
