After laptop ugraded to Win10, bookmarks still there, new firefox doesn't use them. How do I point to them so I can?
I was not smart enough to back up the bookmarks with the windows upgrade (I wasn't told to do this and assumed Firefox would get them as before) and so the new firefox doesn't have any of the old bookmarks. They are still on the laptop in another location. Is there a way I can get them to the location that the new firefox looks for bookmarks so I can use them??
Thank you, Diane

Oh, perhaps you haven't discovered the old location yet? After setting Windows to show hidden files and folders, try here:
C:\Windows.old\Users\your-user-name\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\
If you find multiple semi-randomly-named folders, check each of them for the most recently updated bookmarkbackups folder.

Firefox creates a folder named bookmarkbackups in your profile folder. If you can find the old bookmarkbackups folder, you could replace your current set of bookmarks with one of the backups.
(Note: by default, profile folders are stored under a hidden path, so you might need this: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hidden-files)
The files in that folder are compressed and cannot be read by other programs, so double-clicking them causes an error message. Instead, you need to restore the backup using the steps in the following article (use the "Choose file" option to access the old backup):
Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer
Can you get that to work?

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:
- Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Profile Directory:
Windows: Show Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox

You can copy files like these to the current Firefox profile folder to recover specific data.
- bookmarks and history: places.sqlite
- bookmark backups: JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder
- SQLite files like cookies.sqlite (cookies) and formhistory.sqlite (saved form data)
- logins.json and key3.db (decryption key) for Passwords saved in the Password Manager
- cert8.db and possibly cert_override.txt for (intermediate) certificates stored in the Certificate Manager
- persdict.dat for words you added to the spelling checker dictionary
- permissions.sqlite for Permissions and possibly content-prefs.sqlite for other Site Preferences
- sessionstore.js for open tabs and pinned tabs and tab groups
With all these replies I was able to restore my bookmarks. Thank you! All is well!
