I have a Windows 7 machine which has no local keyboard or mouse, and is always running a firefox browser pointed at a specific site. I would like to have automatic updates applied without requiring any keyboard access, and after closing and reopening Firefox, the same web page be displayed. I can not understand if this is possible or not. This message is being entered on a different machine from the one without any keyboard/mouse, but the firefox installation is essentially then same except a few less plug-ins installed.

It can be done . . . . but . . . .

First, set the home page to the site you want.

Next, set up Firefox to auto-update itself. I don't know if Firefox will restart itself after.

Note: I recommend you have some way to input to the computer in case of trouble. A bluetooth mouse and keyboard for example.

Type about:preferences#advanced<enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select Update. Check the settings.

Type about:preferences#general<enter> in the address bar.

There are two settings;

  • When Firefox Starts

When the browser is started, what do you want to display. Many of us choose Show My Home Page.

  • Home Page

When a new page is opened, what do you want displayed.

Hi Fred,

 I have already done everything in your post. It still waits (with a pop-up window covering most of the screen) asking if I want to exit now to install the update. It does NOT do the update until I manually exit Firefox.

I've called the big guys to help you. Good luck.
