There doesn't appear to be any drop-down menu or button to show your bookmarks while you are browsing other websites. I have to close all tabs, and then there is a bar at the top that says bookmarks. It's not very handy when you're in the middle of browsing. I've tried leaving one tab open to just my bookmarks and opening other tabs from my bookmark tab, but when I go back to my bookmark tab, it's all reset and I have to start all over to drill down the bookmark folders. Again, this is not helpful at all. Is there an easier way to access my bookmarks while having websites open?

To check bookmarks you don't have to close any tabs. Just tap on the address bar or open a new tab and tap on the bookmarks panel.

There is no drop down menu or button for showing bookmarks. The reason for this is to simplify / unify the interface and keep the browser lightweight as mobile devices typically have less resources and screen space compared to desktop computers.
