After installing Firefox, various data files and folders (e.g., "application.ini", "crashreporter.exe" "browser", "jsloader" & "plugins" folders, "gkmedias.dll") start populating on the Desktop, they can be deleted but reappear shortly, even when Firefox is not running, the installation directory was left at the default C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox during installation and that is the location "firefox.exe" shows as running from in Task Manager. I have tried removing an reinstalling it twice but the problem persists. Computer is an HP Elitebook 8460p running Windows 7 Pro. Enterprise edition, Firefox has been installed for over a year without any problems until now.

Firefox should not be doing this.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

On the desktop, right click one of the Firefox files. Is it a file, or a shortcut?

Do you have any kind of backup program / add-on for Firefox?

FredMcD,

Running in Safe Mode did not make a difference and there are no add-ins for Firefox present, the backup program CrashPlan ProE is running on the computer, but has been for longer than Firefox without a problem.

All the items are files\folders (not shortcuts).

I've called the big guys to help you. Good luck.

Start your Computer in safe mode with networking. Then start Firefox. Try Safe web sites. Is the problem still there?

Sounds that you have create the Firefox profile folder on the desktop.

Did you ever use the Profile Manager to create a new profile?

You need to create a new profile and use the defaults as suggested by Firefox.

You should never use the "Choose Folder" button to specify an existing folder, but always use an new and empty folder. If you did create a profile on the desktop then you need to remove the profile from the Profile Manager, but make sure not to click the "Delete Files" button, but click the "Don't Delete Files" button. If you delete the files then all the files on the desktop will be deleted permanently and you won't be able to recover them.
