Can't get videos from vine.co and certain other websites to play

I read a previous question about Firefox not playing vines after a recent update, and the question was answered with toggling the "media.windows-media-foundation.enabled" in about:config to true, and this solved the user's problem. however, my config was already set to true, and I was having this problem. I would've just posted in that thread, but apparently you have to ask your own question to make an account.

Unfortunately, the Media Foundation technology was not included in Windows XP.

I think this might be a Windows XP-specific problem with Vine (and possibly some other sites), but take a look at this thread and see whether any suggestions there are helpful:

MP4 files won´t play

yeah I guess the problem is inherent to xp. it's just strange because everything did work until recently, I dont really understand why things have been changed that would lead to less compatibility (especially when things work in other browsers). I dont really wanna go back to chrome because the last time I made it my default, it took forever to open and ate resources like candy

Do you have the same experience as the other poster: Vine switches to Flash, but the Flash player isn't working? Usually you can tell whether a plugin is being used because when you right-click the player area you get a custom menu.

yeah it's got the flash settings menu and hardware acceleration is already disabled
