The Thunderbird Inbox shows 5GB. under file properties. Where are these 5GB of Email I do not see them?
Was going to upgrade Firefox and saving Profile to save Emails, addresses, profiles, etc. I happen to notice that the Inbox file under Thunderbird has 5GB of mail...how can that be? How can I fix this?

In Thunderbird
- Move all emails out of Inbox into another folder.
- When Inbox is empty, Right click on Inbox and select 'Compact'.
Background info to understand what may be going on.
The Inbox Folder in the Folder Pane is in reality a 'File', an mbox text file.
When you download emails, they are written to that Inbox file one after the other in the order they were downloaded. So these emails are stored in one text document.
It is not sensible to store emails in large files, so that's why there is the facility to create folders and organise emails into smaller files.
The Inbox has a load of activity, so it is best used as an Inbox for incoming mail and not as a general store.
As time goes by these files can get larger, so it is best practise to Archive anything over a few months old by month , year and keep folder structure.
This helps to keep file size smaller.
See Archiving Options:
When you select to delete an email, from your point of view it disappears from the eg: Inbox and reappears in 'Deleted / Trash' folder. In reality , it is still in the Inbox as a 'marked as deleted' email. So a section of text in that file will be marked this way. So that email is still using space. Compacting removes all 'marked as deleted' emails. Compacting Info:
Normally, you do not need to empty the Inbox before compacting, but in your case it sounds as if you have not been managing your folders nor compacting, so it is unknown if there is any corruption in that file. If there was some corruption you could lose everything, hence why I advise you empty the Inbox first and then compact it.
