Sorry to hear about that, you should always be wary of pop-ups - never open or install anything unless it is from the official site. Firefox has built-in features (and extensions that you would need to look for and install) to protect your privacy and security, but all users must still be careful with their browsing habits. You can report malicious links to the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center here: http://www.ic3.gov/complaint/default.aspx

You can also report web forgeries by clicking:

  • Help > Report Web Forgery, or
  • New Fx Menu > Help-29 > Report Web Forgery

As for your malware, please follow this guide:

After removing your malware, consider extensions such as Adblock Plus.

very helpful and thanks. I know very well not to open this type of link or download, but 2 things about this particular solicitation convinced me all was OK. First, the original contact was made by Modzilla itself, asking me to upgrade my media player (or so I thought). I trust Modzilla to be aboveboard so a red flag did not arise. Secondly, my Norton security system popped up a box telling me that the site that was contacting me was safe. So...I proceeded, much to my regret!

I also know to uninstall anything like this I don't like, and I tried that immediately with this Zombie thing. It took 2 days and multiple reboots before I could uninstall it (and everything else that downloaded with it, including the media player). But it is uninstalled now and all seem s fine.

Thank you for responding and for your help!
