Can't link to Thunderbird MAIN page from Firefox

Hello. When I used Internet Explorer, its "mail" link would take me to the main page of my email client, and I could choose to either get messages or send them.

But in the Firefox/Thunderbird ensemble, when I click on the "mail" icon, it takes me direct to the "New Mail" page, ready and waiting for me to to compose and send an email. Also, strangely, it already has some text in the Body Text window.

When I click on the link to open Thunderbird, I want it to open its Main Page, not its New Mail page. Then, I have the choice to either check for messages or compose new ones, right from there.

The problem is that there doesn't seem to be any way to force the Mail link to open Thunderbird in its main page, rather than its New Mail page. And when it does open on the "New Mail" page, I can't find a way to exit there and go to the main page, (without exiting the app altogether and starting over).

You are talking about a Firefox browser question. so it should really be asked in the correct forum.

However, Websites can have 'mailto' links to be used when someone wants to send an email to a specific email address. So therefore it will open a new message with email address preinserted ready for you to create the message and send using whatever mail client you have chosen as default. Mailto links are about sending an email; not invoking your email client to open, check for emails, download and let you read them. In Firefox: Tools > Options > Applications mailto uses eg: Thunderbird additional info:

This has always been the case as far as I remember. I know this because I also have a mailto link on my website and therefore have been testing this sort of thing for years. This is also the case if you use IE or Chrome browser.

If Thunderbird is already open, it opens a new write message window else it only opens a new Write message window. Additional info:

The same applies to 'File' > 'Email Link' or if you have the envelop icon (email a link to this page').

This will invoke the Write new message window and it will include such details as the hyperlink in the body.

The fact that you state there is preset information suggests that you have selected to use a Mailto email address or Create an email and include information ready for user to complete and send.
