Manage Firefox data collection and privacy settings

Firefox balances privacy with performance by collecting limited data, such as usage trends, crash reports, and system details, to improve stability and functionality.

This article provides an overview of what’s included in your system settings, where you can control data collection and usage on desktop; guidance is also available for mobile.

Manage settings involving data collection on desktop

To manage technical and interaction data, studies, the daily usage ping and the automatic sending of crash reports:

First, open the Privacy & Security settings

  1. In the Menu bar at the top of the screen, click Firefox and select Settings (or Preferences, in some cases).Click the menu button Fx89menuButton and select Settings.
  2. On the left-hand side, click Privacy & Security.
  3. Scroll down to the Firefox Data Collection and Use section.

Next, choose what to share

Uncheck or check the following options based on your preferences:

Note: Changes save automatically. Close the Settings tab when you're done.

Manage sponsored content data, recent activity and weather

First, open the New Tab content settings

  1. Click the gear Fx89Personalize-GearIconpencil Fx141NewTabCustomizeIcon icon on the bottom right corner of your New Tab page.
  2. A panel will open, showing content you can customize.

Next, adjust the following options

  1. Click the toggle next to a section to switch it on Fx89Personalize-ToggleOn or off Fx89Personalize-ToggleOff to show or hide that section. To opt in or opt out of sponsored content, check or uncheck those options.
