有些版本的Windows並沒有安裝媒體播放器和其他用來解碼、播放影音的技術。微軟(Microsoft)提供了"媒體功能套件" (給Windows N and KN 版) 以及 "平台功能補充包" (給Windows Vista 和 Server 2008)，來給用戶下載新增這些功能。
這裡有些人們回報說沒安裝媒體功能套件時，遇上的問題:
- "為什麼我的Youtube影片會模糊、解析度低和黑屏?"
- "為什麼我的影片不是HTML，而是Flash?"
- "我的Vimeo不能用!"
