Cannot connect to 192.168.1.254 but other IPs are fine
After the latest Firefox update, I'm unable to connect to my router's IP address, 192.168.1.254. Other IPs on my system are fine, it's just that one which won't work. Nothing appears on the page, it's just blank and the little dot to the left of the tab never stops jiggling left and right. All that said, I can connect to the address using Chrome. I thought of checking the "Don't use HTTPS-only" setting but the settings menu has been changed and that particular option has disappeared. Any ideas?

Hi jbr After going through your list of things to try, I discovered it was the Surfshark VPN extension that was causing the issue. Once I disabled it I was able to reach my router's IP address normally. What I don't understand is why it started to play up since I've had that extension on my system for over two years and there's never been a problem until now. I also don't understand why other IP addresses were unaffected by this issue, only the one allocated to my router. I've now removed the extension altogether to avoid any further mishaps. Thank you so much for your help.

The option is under Privacy and security
No, it’s not. The options in there have changed. I looked there already and what is there now only mentions DNS over HTTPS
Privacy & security › Connection and software security › Advanced settings › HTTPS-Only Mode
Basically just typing "https" in the settings search bar should give your this advanced section as a result.
Thanks. I've found it now but it's set to "Don’t enable HTTPS-Only Mode" so that's not what's causing me to be unable to reach my router's IP address. It must be something else.
I'd treat it like any website compatibility issue … stale data, old handshakes… and basically start trying with e.g. a Private Window first.
The standard troubleshooting steps that may resolve the issue:
- Start with clearing Firefox cache.
- If it does not help, try clearing cookies and data for the website you experience troubles with (both for the site via "shield" pane, or from privacy section in settings if there are any records for the host).
- If it also does not help, try running Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode. If the problem doesn't persist, please follow the steps from this article to troubleshoot further.
- Please check if you have Enhanced Tracking Protection (ETP) enabled. You can do that by clicking the shield
icon in the left part of the address bar. If ETP is enabled, try disabling it.
- If nothing from the above helps, try creating a new Firefox profile and check if the issue persists there. If it doesn't, you can start copying files from your old profile to the new one to identify which one causes the issue. See this article on what files to copy.
