Get messages doing nothing

Been having this problem now for quite a while and it is getting annoying to the point I'm considering switching email clients at this point.

I have 2 email accounts setup, one is my private email, one my business email. Naturally my business email is quite busy compared to my private one. Lately, for no discernable reason, the business email will refuse to check messages. Even in the tools > activity manager, nothing shows up when it is asked to get messages. The only way I've found to restore this is to go into the profile folder and delete the global-messages-db.sqlite, let it reindex (which take close to 20 minute) and then maybe after restarting again it might start getting the message again (even this isn't 100% effective). Even if it does work, it is only a temporary fix and it will soon break again. There are no error messages, just no response when asked to check messages. If it is left running for a very long time (typically hours) it sometimes recovers on its own and will suddenly deluge me with hours worth of emails.

I have attempted to clean out history to see if it was just overflowing, but even after getting rid of multiple years of history, cutting the size roughly in half, it has no discernable affect other than speeding up that reindexing.

Meanwhile my private email account works perfectly fine and gives me no issues. However, my business email is a lot more important and needs to be responding promptly. I can't have it refusing to get message for long period for no reason.

Any help on this matter would be appreciated as I really don't want change clients, but I may have no choice soon.

I lost my spellcheck dictionary recently (not sure why). I have re-downloaded and enabled and activated it, but TB doesn't remember that I have done so. Every time I start TB, I have to re-enable it if I want the spellchecker to work.

prefs.js is writable.

What should I do?

When I right-click an email line item sitting in my Sent folder and then select Move to > Recent > and then select a folder for it to go into, like in this case of selecting "2024 After Jacqueline" folder, *what is making the second and onward moved items become "sub" items of the first-moved item? See the screenshot attached for an example.

I don't know if this happens in other "move" type cases; this just recently reached my radar; perhaps it's omnipresent and has been going on a while. I do recall months ago, searching feverishly for an email, and then finding it as a "sub" under another email, just like this current situation.

1) How would I now get that *second* line item (Socially-Responsible Investing Alyse-Style), for example, to NOT be in a sort of "folder" of the first line item (End-of-Year-Planning Questionnaire)? All I had done was, in my Sent box, I right-clicked an email, then selected Move to > Recent > 2024 Started w Jacqueline, and it ended up in the 2024 After Jacqueline as wanted, but mistakenly *within* "End-of-Year-Planning Questionnaire" line item as a sort of "sub" line item. I simply want all items that I move to the 2024 After Jacqueline folder to end up in left-hand-alignment with each other ... all line items flush left. For example, like this:

End-of-Year Planning Questionnaire Socially-Responsible Investing Alyse-Style

2) How do I make that STOP happening for future email line-item moves?

Should I use my backup to do the copy or can I right click on the folder list on the left column of the original account display and select the 'copy to' function in the drop down menu? We all followed that same thread for several weeks now - asking questions, etc. Yesterday I received an email from one of the recipients bunched in with that that thread that included two additional addressees and a different subject line. One of the additional recipients told me she did not receive the tax information thread, only the RSVP email.

This confuses me - What gives?

On the old computer, in Thunderbird there is a folder ("named Keepers") where I have a bunch of emails that I want to keep.

Is there some way I can copy that folder over to Thunderbird on the new computer?

One of my email accounts is a company-named (i.e. myname@company.com) Gmail account at a company I work for. I have a lot of mail, distributed in a lot of folders. And, of course there's the All Mail folder.

I recently opened a message I sent a couple of weeks ago in the folder I stored it in. The message is displayed correctly (subject, correspondent, date) in the folder list, but when I open the message a different message (in the same folder) is displayed, except that the subject line of the message I was looking for is displayed.

I can open the message in All Mail and get the correct message.

This is the only instance of this problem I've found, but of course now I'm worried that there are others.

How do I fix this?

This is more of a puzzling question. I have been receiving multiple daily notices to Compact the Folders, to save 503MB of space. Even after doing a "Compact" I get another request or pop-up to do it again. I even went to the pull down menu and did a "Compact" from there and again less that an hour later another pop-up!! I have upgraded to the latest version 115.8.0 (64-bit) and the same thing happens.

I know I have an option to make the "Compacting" automatic but I am concerned that it will happen constantly and block me from normal usage at the worst time.

The the question is: What am I missing or what is the solution??

I delete them and they just come back. example: Receipt folder Receipt folder copy.sbd Trash Trash.msf Unsent messages Unsent messages.msf Is there any way to prevent this?

For example the mozilla.org-messages use only 1/3 of the available space (when shown in HTML). ... see screenshot below.

How can I manually set a higher default zoom level OR make Thunderbird remember the last used zoom level? ... , like other email-clients do.

What I tried so far: 1. Increasing font sizes for 'Latin' and 'Other Writing Systems' leads to horrible results. ... also visible in screenshot 2. In config editor, available at settings>general, increasing 'zoom.minpercent'. ... but this zoom the whole UI.

I have created a form in Adobe Acrobat Pro with several form-fillable fields. All multi-line fields were created with the "long text scrolling" feature in Acrobat turned off, and all fields are locked.

However, when I email the form using Thunderbird and open it in Thunderbird (versus save and open in Adobe), all of the multi-line fields now allow text scrolling. As an example, I want only 5 lines of text to be entered in a particular box on the form, and Acrobat Pro and Reader perform correctly and limit the number of lines to 5. But when I email the form and open it in Thunderbird, I can enter unlimited lines of text.

As this form will be primarily emailed to recipients, I want to be sure the line limitation survives emailing. Is there a setting in Thunderbird I'm missing when sending, or opening the form?

Reboot Windows and try to start Thunderbird and works OK. Alternatively, going into Task Manager there will be a number of Thunderbird processes running. If I manually end them all (while Thunderbird is NOT active) then I can restart as normal too. This all began with 124.0 Beta 1. Never had the issue prior.

Also, Thunderbird crashes if restarting within the app. By this I mean clicking the X it appears to close (excepting those persistent processes running) but "Restart Thunderbird" such as to launch Troubleshooting mode or from the "Restart to update Thunderbird" config crashes the app with 100% consistency.
