Hi,

What do you mean by losing your passwords? An account recovery key lets you keep your data when resetting your Mozilla account password, but it will not recover any deleted data.

Hi Mike, a recovery key is needed when resetting your Mozilla account password in order to keep your cloud data. Please see this article for more details: How to change or reset your Mozilla account password.
