why am I getting notices about HDCP compliance when Safari manages just fine?
Specifically on HBO NOW/GO.
I toggled hardware acceleration options on/off and restarted and sometimes it works and plays but mostly it does not.

HDCP stands for High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection, a copy protection scheme to eliminate the possibility of intercepting digital data midstream between the source to the display.
I found this bug report about HDCP and HBO:

yeah! that's it! I hope they dont close that bug report because I'm definitely running into the same issue.
