I receive an email indicating an attachment, but I cannot see nor download the attachment. I need send it to another email address and then can download.

attachment.... would there be an attachment called winmail.dat by any chance?

No; they are pdf files. Just within the last two weeks I have been unable to see for download the attachment in Thunderbird.
