I had installed flash player and my computer would run really slowly, and would freeze and run especially slow when watching youtube videos or visiting websites using flash plugin

I then uninstalled flash player and my computer and firefox began running significantly faster. However, I couldn't watch youtube videos. I then installed the "youtube flash video player" and " youtube flash player" plugins for mozilla. The videos could then run, but the computer and firefox ran slowly and lagged again. I then disabled those and then downloaded "Media Feature Pack for N and KN versions of Windows 10 ". Now, my computer and firefox run much faster again and I can watch youtube videos. However, it still sometimes lags and freezes. How can I get rid of the lags and freezes?

If I could summarize, the problem is that pages using Flash cause freezes in Firefox.

We have a general support article on troubleshooting Flash issues: Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems.

However, I'll jump to a particular suggestion, which is to try disabling the protected mode feature of the Flash player plugin. That feature has security benefits, but seems to have serious compatibility issues on some systems. You can disable it using the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. On the right side, find "Shockwave Flash" and click the More link. Then uncheck the box for "Enable Adobe Flash protected mode" and try that for a day to see whether it helps.
