why do I get a warning that firefox is blocking a pop up ad every time I check my yahoo mail?
when I try to check my mail the page shakes and I get a warning saying firefox blocked a pop up ad. Mostly it happens on yahoo

That seems unusually dramatic. I think I just get an infobar below the toolbar area when Firefox blocks a pop-up. The infobar has a button which has a few choices and shows the URL of the popup. Do you see that at all?

Yes that is what I see
I should have asked about the shaking: is this from side to side or vertically? If it's vertical, perhaps your "smooth scrolling" is glitchy. Have you noticed any issues with scrolling? You could try turning off that feature here:
