Tabs lost after OS updates
I installed updates for my laptop and lost all my open tabs. I tried using the method of renaming .bak to js but still nothing. Is there another method of getting them back?

No, you need a backup copy of the sessionstore.js file that has the missing session with those tabs.
Did you check the browsing history to see if you can reconstruct those lost tabs?
I haven't been able to find the lost tabs in my browsing history. A lot of them I opened via "open link in new tab" so it seems like none of them registered in the history.
What are JQuery libraries? How would I know if they're the latest versions?
