How do I turn off checking for updates?

At work I don't have the authorization needed to update Firefox. The frequent pop-up windows asking if I want to update are only a minor nuisance, but a nuisance nevertheless, and I'd like to turn that feature off. I looked through Options and didn't find a way to do that.
