Why do I continually get the following message even though I have closed Firefox? Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system.

recently I receive the following message after having closed Firefox and attempt to open it. - Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system'. - I have closed any open bookmarks. Google is my home page and I have closed that as well.
