The speakers worked fine. I upgraded Firefox and now cannot hear anything - music CDs, Youtube, other audio links, live streaming. I only hear the computer's Windows start-up refrain when I turn it on. That's all.

I have a similar problem: my sound goes off when I watch youtube or flash videos. If I close Firefox and restart, the sound comes back, but stops again after a few minutes.
