Why are bookmarks so useless ?

info3276

Once upon a time, back in the dawn of history, we all remember "Netscape", the "Anti-explorer", which kept us all free from the micro$oft virus and also reasonably sane.

Back then, you could "bookmark" interesting stuff you found in a list of links. This was kinda handy for people like me who have a memory like dorey's (from finding nemo...)

Therefore, I'm wondering why the so-called "bookmarks" functionality in firefox is now completely useless ?

Due to it's completely useless nature, I ultimately have started a text file called "bookmarks.txt". When i need to bookmark something, i copy the dang address from my browser pane and paste it into the bookmarks.txt file.

It is somewhat clunky , but it is a hell of a lot better than the so-called functionality given in the browser.

Would be interested to get the community's feedback on this point.

Am I stupid, or, do I have a point ? And why is the bookmarking so useless anyway ? Let me know your opinions , folks.

And why do you think it's useless? It's pretty much the same as 20 years ago.

You're not stupid, but this question is stupid AF.

The functionality of bookmarks was very simple, like my current bookmarks.txt file. You just ended up with a list of the web addresses you had saved.

Correct me if I am wrong, but this does not seem to happen any more if you "save" a "bookmark" in firefox now ? I saved a bunch of bookmarks over recent years. Yet, when I went to the bookmarks folder , I could only see a few of the most recent ones. Older stuff seemed to disappear. When you try to search bookmarks, it takes you into search your history ?? eh ??? (Due to my paranoia, I don't keep any history so that is generally blank, thank heavens.).

The only functionality I need from bookmarks is to have a list of web links, preferrably sorted in alphabetical order, when i decide to save them.

Is it not possible for mozilla to implement this ? Surely it's not rocket science ? Why does everyone keep over-complicating things ?

My suspicion vis-a-vis the last point is that it is all to do with a bunch of money changing hands involving users data obtained for free (i.e google's business model.).

No money is being exchanged for your bookmarks, and/or to make them disappear.

If you think your data is not complete, please check Bookmarks in Firefox for the introduction to how and where to manage the entries, and if content appears to be missing, follow Recover lost or missing Bookmarks for the potential backup snapshots of the data over time.
