Compacting fails with error message " The folder 'Inbox on **********' could not be compacted because writing to folder failed. Verify that you have enough disk space, and that you have write privileges to the file system, then try again." This happens on both my PC's, which are not connected in any way, but have duplicate installations. The profile is 7.75GB - PC A - Win 10 Pro - has 704GB spare disk space, PC B - Win 11 Pro - has 50GB spare disk space. I can think of no reason why write permissons would change. This problem started with ver. 138 & has continued with ver. 139

Many people have found that this problem is caused by their anti-virus software. Are you using anti-virus software? Have you searched the forum for solutions?

Yes, (Bitdefender) - the same one as I have used for the last 4 years without problem. I did try with it disabled; the problem persists. I have searched the forum, but what I found was either irrelevent or made no difference. That the problem starting occuring on 2 independent and differently configured P/C's following a version upgrade strongly indicates that the problem is with the product

Let us hope that someone else can help more than I can.

There is an open bug report for this (bug ID 1959858), but no solution yet.

There is currently a bug or two that causes this issue. AV so far is not implicated, and Troubleshoot Mode is not known to help either.

For now, disable automatic compact and/or set a higher threshold value.
