inbox information completely disappeared

Turned on computer and went to inbox. message came up that it was frozen so had to cancel and restart. when i got program running again the inbox came up blank although I had 1600 messages before. I rebboted the computer and logged in again to no avail. How do I get the inbox to start over and fill in all my messages?
