Hello, my name is Celine and I am the secretary of a study association. The association uses Mozilla Thunderbird to send newsletters to about 900 people every other week. A lot of these mails end up in the spam folder of the recipients; however, this doesn't happen every time. Sometimes the newsletter ends up in the spam, other times in the regular inbox. I use a HTML format and copy the mail adresses from Excel files. Is there any way I can prevent the newsletter ending up in the spam? Or does this depend on the mail settings of the recepiens? Messages that have a lot of recipients can trigger spam filters. If you aren't already using mailing lists and/or Bcc for these newsletters, it's worth considering. Check that your messages don't exceed the max. number of recipients per message, set by the mail provider, and typically much lower than 900. Other things that can suggest spam include messages with many links, or many images hosted on remote servers. If possible, ask recipients to whitelist your address in their webmail settings ('spam' is not a term used by TB, but by many mail providers) or add your address to their webmail contacts.

Consider a service like MailChimp if you continue to have problems.
