Using FF ESR 52.2.0 (32-bit), I get a message in the left sidebar on the Gmail webmail page: "To use chat, upgrade your browser." Google Chat/Hangouts was working fine a few days ago, and still works perfectly within Gmail webmail in Chrome and IE. I don't want to move to the "mainstream" Firefox, as many of my plug-ins would not be supported- that's why I switched to ESR in the first place.

Never mind-- I found the problem. It was the "Restore Your Gmail Settings 2.2.8.1-signed.1-signed" add-on, which, when disabled, makes the issue go away. The extension had not been causing any problems until a few days ago, but has apparently not been updated since 5/8/16.

If you have the 'Gmail Hangouts sidebar unavailable' issue, make sure you have not installed the extension mentioned above, and if so, disable it.
