If I accidently delete a message or part of a message that I'm composing, is there a way I can hit a "go back" button to restore what I've just deleted?

Most problematic is composing a message and accidentally highlighting a portion, which I don't notice before I continue keying in the balance of the message. The highlighted piece disappears and seems to be lost, so that I have to reconstruct the whole message. Using a desktop pc.
