While moving icons around on desktop I lost the Firefox icon (shortcut) and cannot find it - need to restore it.

Hi, try this: Open the PC's Start Menu > All Programs > Mozilla Firefox, then right click, > Send to > Desktop (create shortcut). There should now be a Firefox shortcut icon on your Desktop.
