Firefox4 has stopped offering to remember passwords.

I started using Firefox4 as soon as it was stable for release. I was pleased with features and speed, and it remembered my passwords (to the sites where that is practical - I know certain sites won't have passwords remembered for them). Then, suddenly, it stopped asking if I wanted to remember them.

So I uninstalled and reinstalled. All was well again, until suddenly, once again, it's stopped asking me if I want it to remember passwords. What gives? I see about 6-7 passwords it has stored, but "remember passwords for sites" is checked, and it refuses to ask me.

Why so temperamental?

Make sure that you not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history mode.

  • You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
  • To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
  • Uncheck: [ ] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"
