After an update I lost all of my tab groups I had made.

After (what I presume was) an update I lost all of my tab groups I had made. I had a bunch of school stuff and creative writing stuff in there and would love to recover them if possible. I tried to check my proflies and opened them in a new tab, but all the groups were still missing in them.

Before doing anything else, check whether Firefox still has the groups saved in its session backups.

Check about:config for browser.tabs.groups.enabled and make sure it's set to true.

Check History > Restore Previous Session and History > Recently Closed Windows.

If the groups are still missing, open about:support, click Open Folder beside Profile Folder, then open sessionstore-backups. Copy the entire folder somewhere safe before changing anything.

Look for older files named previous.jsonlz4 or upgrade.jsonlz4-.... Those may contain the groups from before the update. You can inspect copies with the Session History Scrounger to see whether the missing group URLs are still there. Keep in mind that this tool can expose your browsing history, so only use it if you're comfortable with that.

Do you still have the tabs that were open before the update, or did those disappear along with the saved groups?
