Thunderbird sucks.

Daryllaz1

A few months ago I posted a question on these message boards after losing my ability to receive, send or even review messages/e-mails. For 3 months I was unable to access my e-mail. And I'm not certain hoe they are related, but after a hard drive failure, The only files that could be seen on the hard drive was a file folder labelled Wondershare. I downloaded a Wondershare program (Recoverit) after all my archived messages were wiped from my computer as this was the recommendation from members on the open threads at Mozilla.

While I appreciated the help from the members of this community, Thunderbird has again destroyed my ability to access any e-mails. The Thunderbird program is telling me that the settings that it took me 3 months to finally sort out are no longer operative.

Total garbage, I am not an experienced computer user, and would never have signed up for Thunderbird had I known this platform had no customer support and prone to these sort of failures.

Can anyone help me open my e-mails and move them to a program where I don't have to put up with such nonsense?

Thanks a lot in advance

Your problem is puzzling, as Thunderbird is a passive client, never taking initiative.. Since you want to move to another client, do you want to export the messages as eml files or as an mbox file? You may also find some email clients, such as Mailbird and eM Client, are usually able to import the full account transparently. That may prove your easiest option.

The first problem that you reported earlier was that Thunderbird had "vaporized" your messages on your old computer. That is vague wording. In some cases, there is a simple explanation for why messages seem to be missing, they are not actually missing, and people here can help users find them.

The problem with your new computer seemed to lie in the connection settings. You did not respond to the last message of guidance in this discussion: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1534993

Your problem today still seems to lie in the connection settings. You may find that setting up new conections in another app is tricky too.

If you would like to solve a problem with connection settings, please report 1) your incoming server settings and 2) your outgoing server settings. Incoming server settings are in account settings > server settings. Outgoing server settings are in account settings > click on account name > edit SMTP server. You can get to account settings by several routes, including 1) right click on the account name in the folder pane and select "Settings" and 2) click on the ≡ button at top right and select "account settings".

We will need this information for each server:

server name: port: connection security method: authentication method: username: just report whether you are using your full e-mail address or just the part before "@" or something else

Does your e-mail service provider require an app-specific password, a.k.a. security password or app password, for third-party e-mail clients such as Thunderbird? Has your e-mail service provider changed something recently?
