Hi, good day/evening you all. Hey with a temporary disability I have a real need to limit my mousing and would love to see a feature request I could give a thumbs up on -- for the 3 line menu at the top right being accessible via keyboard. (Also at least some of the choices on it such as History via a hotkey -- after I have the main menu open. By the way I know about pressing Alt, then any of the hotkeys on the old school hidden menu bar -- I'm instead talking about the new always visible hamburger menu icon.)

Where would I search to see if there's been any discussion or progress on that? Bugzilla?

Sorry I'm new to this type of questioning. Any tips would be greatly appreciated and my body would appreciate it too! :-)

Hi all, I'm having a lot of problems with Firefox crashing pretty often. Sometimes once or twice a day.

I most often see crashes in the middle of a Webex video conference for work. But Firefox sometimes goes down in other situations that I see no pattern in.

This is Ubuntu 20.04, Firefox 102.0. Unfortunately, it's a complex environment to debug.

First, when firefox goes down, it rarely leaves a crash report behind. So I'm not getting any direct evidence as to what is happening. Second, I run with uBlock active and it is very difficult to function in the browser without long enough for the crash to happen. Third, I typically have several hundred tabs open. I have a lot of memory (64G) in my machine, and the machine doesn't act like it's swapping, so I don't think I'm running out of memory.

Any help getting to the bottom of what's going on is welcome.

Hi Colleen,

I’m not able to log into my Bold App to review recurring customer subscription orders using Shopify.

It says that I can't open it because my browser does not allow third party cookies.

How do I change my settings so that I can view third party cookies on Firefox?

Hello,

I've recently encountered a curious issue with my Firefox browser (Firefox version 102.0, Windows 11 Insider Preview 10.0.25145.1011). At seemingly random times it will freeze for between two and five minutes (roughly). UI elements become completely unresponsive and the cursor does not update when moving over the browser window. The window will not minimize. Yet, Windows Task Manager does not report the application as being unresponsive. While never a common problem, any freezes in the past would eventually cause the Windows Task Manager to identify it as unresponsive.

I have disabled "recommended performance settings" and hardware acceleration to no avail. Everything seems perfectly normal immediately before and after the freezes, and I've yet to identify how I can trigger them. I do not recall having made any changes to my browser before the freezes started occurring, though multiple Windows updates have taken place since then. If I'm too impatient to wait I will end the Firefox processes via Windows Task Manager and restart it so I can return to my tabs without having cookies deleted. I have 13 plugins mainly covering privacy/security concerns. Is there some sort of debug tool I can engage to see what's occupying Firefox while it's frozen? I've just found the Firefox Task Manager, and will see if it can offer any additional information during/after the freezes.

Thanks, Logan

I'm clicking on a list of links on a page, and the download-panel keeps popping up. This blocks the view of the page that I'm clicking on and I lose my position on the page as I'm clicking.

I like seeing the download-panel, so I don't want to turn it off. I'd just like it to show only the last clicked-on entry, not the last 10 or however many it's showing, which seems to include completed downloads.

I can see that it has a hard limit on how many entries it shows. Is there a way for me to adjust that limit?

God, your programmers or other workers make these instructions so darn complex! I was a programmer and I now hate trying to find how to make a recommendation to you. Somebody went a bit berserk writing these supposed help pages.

You need that programmer to put a cursor at the beginning of the line where we type our description of the article to be saved. And that programmer has a lot of energy, so please allow us to search for the word that WE write as the description. For $4.99 a month, I expect both of these small software changes. We save so many articles and really need to be able to search for whatever code we write as the description of the saved article.

God only knows if this is going to the correct department. This website is a maze of information.

Evening, all.

It's very rare I ask for help on ANY fora, if I'm honest. I can almost always sort out my own issues, especially with browsers. However, this one has stumped me.

I've noticed that, on any website where user interaction requires use of a microphone, the Linux build of Firefox only ever offers "source_default_name" for choice of microphone. Well, OK; I can see this being fine for the vast majority of folks who use a laptop; the built-in microphone WILL be the "default" microphone, no questions.

My question is this; what do those of us running desktop PCs do about microphone selection, hmm? A desktop PC doesn't HAVE a "built-in, default microphone", does it? By their very nature, any microphone you're going to use with a desktop is going to be an externally plugged-in device. I have three of these; a USB microphone.....a wireless headset, and the twin stereo mikes on a Logitech c920 webcam.

Do I get anything resembling a drop-down list to choose what I want to use? Uh-uh. Firefox - apparently! - doesn't "see" any of them. Not individually. All I ever see is "source_default_name".....

Grrrr...!!

C'mon, guys! Frankly, this is about as much use as a chocolate teapot. Linux, to the best of my knowledge - unlike Windoze - doesn't make 'global' device settings, which every application then uses. It's always been far more fine-grained than that, allowing individual device use on a per-app basis. But that only works if the 'app' in question allows those choices to be made.

Any Chromium-based "clone" - and I use several of these, as I package portable versions for the Puppy Linux community - will give a full drop-down list of every available device it can find. Why can't the Linux builds of Firefox do the same?

I shall be interested to see what, if any, replies I get to this question. It's been bugging me for years...!

Mike.

In making this post I am following instructions found at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-crashes-closing-or-quitting, which include the statement "Fill out the Details section of the next page..." which seems to refer to THIS page, but I see no Details section here, so I'll just put the details where they seem to apply.

Firefox Version 102, installed today, shows the same symptom I've been seeing for several weeks, perhaps months: whenever Firefox is closed, a crash report popup appears on the screen (after a minute or two). I've been submitting these on a regular basis and hoped that Version 102 would contain a fix, but the issue continues.

So today I've created some minimum-to-reproduce examples, in each case using the same setup, but closing Firefox in a different manner:

Setup: Firefox for Windows V 102 installed today. Windows 10 is up to date. I open Firefox in troubleshooting mode, which displays my home page, located on a shared server that I use for a website and other stuff I want to be able to access from anywhere. Nothing exotic, just a list of links. That works.

Then, without doing anything else (for purposes of these tests), I close Firefox via one of the following (with associated report ID):

  • Click on large X in the upper right corner of the window.
   bp-e31ef7d6-8d17-41c8-a204-0e53c0220630e
  • In the window menu, select File > Exit.
  bp-d15f97c8-267f-4550-9d42-69eb70220630
  • On the task bar, RMB on Firefox, then select 'Close window'.
 bp-39756c12-ccb7-4f83-998a-ec8030220630

My system is an HP laptop with AMD Vision A6 processor. My wife uses a Dell all-in-one on the same wired network and does not experience the crash-on-close symptom. This makes me suspect my hardware, but just tested with other browsers:

Chrome - Blocked my home page (never saw that before, but I use Firefox...) until I removed the block from Settings. Closed without crashing. Edge - Updated itself, then gave me the same "Not secure" warning as Chrome, but displayed the home page anyway. Closed without crashing.

In all cases, the link to my home page is specified as http://, not https:// My wife's system is set up the same way.

My question: How can I get Firefox to close gracefully, without spitting out a crash report 1-2 minutes later? Note that I can OPEN Firefox and use it for hours without incident, but if I close it and do something else, when I close THAT, there's the Firefox crash report window underneath.

I just ran the w3.org validator on my home page and I see that a few errors have crept in,. mostly unencoded ampersands. I'll fix those, but if that caused a problem for Firefox, would it wait until much later to crash? And why only on my system, not my wife's?

Suggestions?
