When I want to search something I usually open a new tab (Ctr+T) then quickly hit Tab so my typing indicator goes from the Address Bar to the Search Bar, but with a recent update there is now a "Search Selection" part that is in the way so I have to hit Tab twice.

I know this seems petty but I have been the simplest happiest minimalist user for the past 25 years and I've never had issues with Ctr+T followed by Tab to search something. Why did you implement a change that I am sure nobody has ever asked? Please revert it back or explain to my fatigued mind how to do it if it is possible.

Every time I attempt to change my search engine from DuckDuckGo I am unsuccessful. The browser simply reverts back to DuckDuckGo. I am running Windows 11 and have installed each and every update that has come along.

It seems like on the first search in a session, after the most recent Firefox update, the search window opens a new blank tab that goes nowhere. I have to close the blank tab and search again to get search results. I've tried different search engines.

In previous versions of Firefox, using an alternative search engine was seamless: I just typed my keywords and clicked the specific search engine icon.

With the current update, the workflow is much longer. Now I have to:

1. Type the keywords 2. Click the dropdown arrow 3. Select the alternative search engine icon 4. Hit Enter

Why was this UX change made? It feels like a step backward.

Every time I want to search an item or word, you now take me out of the search bar and throw me on to the address bar, which I really have to struggle to read. This has been going on now for quite some time. my question is WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM?? I DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO GO TO config TO DO IT MYSELF. FIX IT ON YOUR END NOT MINE! And now as I scroll down, I see you've made some guesses. Then information gives details about the internal workings of your browser, IT'S NOT MY BROWSER, IT'S YOURS. FIX IT

As a loyal and long time user of Firefox [since 1998 yes 1998 ,,,] if you or i cant remove google from my browser , i might have to find a replacement, that will allow me to remove this nonsense , i await your response ATB BlackSam

I like tabs to open in the background. I've found a way to do this for most instances, but not when I search while typing in the address bar.

Is it possible ?

I liked my search box functioning like it did before the last update...can you please revert it back to the way it was please or give us the option to change it back. Why mess with perfection???...thank you. (149.0 64bit currently)

I am trying to change my search over to Mozilla and firefox. When I open up the firebox search the google search pops in. Why? I already discouraged because I know they are attempting control. The last two years I have been hacked almost every month. The whole problem has been ongoing for almost 20 years.

I use Mozilla's Firefox as my default browser. I recently noticed as I surf the Internet, Bing surreptitiously intercedes for Firefox. Why is this? How does this happen? There is nothing I can do to stop it, or change it. Why? I do not want that. Is that okay with the folks at Mozilla?

I suspect what I'm about to describe is intended behavior and I'm just doing things Wrong.

Sometimes I want to specify a search engine; sometimes I don't. This is awkward when my search terms include the shortcut for an engine for some reason (it happens to me more often than you'd think). To date, I've handled that case by using the address bar (ctrl-l by default) when I want to do an engine-specific search, and the search bar (ctrl-k by default) when I want to explicitly prevent that, because the search bar doesn't support search shortcuts.

Search shortcut support appears to have been added to the most recent update I received (149.0), breaking this flow (and incidentally breaking muscle memory for tabbing from one bar to the other, but that's less annoying). I could add a common prefix (presumably a symbol key) to all my search shortcuts to get similar behavior, but I'm fairly attached to the home row; every bucky bit is a small but noticeable pain on my wrists.

I'd like to know how to disable search shortcuts only in one bar or the other (I don't care which); or, alternately, a better way to achieve the same goal. At present my next-best-alternative is to train myself to *always* use an explicit search shortcut...which I can live with if necessary, but it's not ideal.

I have been using Firefox for years and had no problems. I have it setup for custom URL home page to yahoo. When I go in and try to search anything, it shows about:blank. If i try several times it will work. For testing, I tried google chrome and do not have this problem.

Any thoughts?

Before the last update I could enter a search term into the search field, and it opened immediately a box offering the different search engines that I have installed. Just one click on one of them and my search got started (or simply <return> for using the default engine) But now I enter a search term but my search engines are not offered anymore. I have to click the symbol of the current engine to the left of the field and there chose the desired engine. But with this the earch doesn't start yet. It's still necessary to click the "Go"-arrow or press return.

So it got more complicated.

Is there a way to get the old method back?
