Firefox 65.0 (64 bit)

Ubuntu 16.04.5 LTS Linux 4.4.0-142-generic #168-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jan 16 21:00:45 UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I only started looking at gumtree last week, but twice now, once the site has opened and I try to type in the search box, the system freezes immediately and my disk light is going crazy.

The system was unrecoverable and I had to reboot. (CTRL-ALT-F2 nothing, rsh never gets anywhere, CTRL-ALT-backspace nothing, ALT-SysReq R I E nothing. Only ALT-SysReq B worked.)

As a guess, Firefox asked for a ton of virtual memory and the Ubuntu/Linux configuration handled it very badly.

Why is Firefox doing this and how to prevent it?

Should I also post on Ubuntu forums as the OS memory management clearly sucks ?

James
